A few years prior to the planning of this site in 2008, a handful of Vishwakarmans gathered together with the ardent desire to come together as a community and as a first step in that direction, decided to have a collective performance of the Shri Guru Vishwakarma Pooja. Accordingly a small Working Committee was formed and a date was fixed for 17th October, 2003, to hold the first Saamoohika Shri Guru Vishwakarma Pooja at the Sindhi Ceremonial Hall, in Dubai. By the Grace of The Lord the Pooja Ceremony was conducted with great enthusiasm and religious fervor. The function was not only a resounding success but also the beginning of a new chapter in the calendar of events for all the Vishwakarmans of U.A.E. The Working Committee had conservatively estimated a gathering of about 150 devotees. But, despite not receiving the formal invitation and purely based on the word-of-mouth publicity received by the community the response was truly over-whelming with over 300 devotees attending the Pooja seeking blessings from The Guru.
Encouraged by the phenomenal response to the first Pooja, with the cooperation of a large number of people from our community, the second Pooja was held at the much bigger venue at the Emirates English Speaking School Auditorium, near Safa Park, Dubai on 4th February, 2005.
The Third Pooja was held on 25th November, 2005, with a day-long programme involving cultural activities performed enthusiastically by the young & old of the community.
The Fourth Pooja was held on 22nd September, 2006, at the same venue in the fore-noon, followed by a cultural programme including a creditable rendering of the mythologically famous ‘Mahishaasura Mardhini’ in the form of a Yakshgaana Bayalata, gracefully performed by the Dubai-based cultural Dance-Drama group, ‘Yaksha Mitraru’.
In order to further consolidate the success of the previous years’ Pooja and cultural activities’ based programmes by the enthusiastic members of the community and to make the programmes and the cultural activities even bigger to reach out a larger audience, the seed Working Committee decided to have a bigger, formal and a more structured Work Group comprising the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Entertainment & other Events Coordinators. Thus, on 16th March, 2007 a full day of activities involving a variety entertainment programme, a Vihara-Kuta type of gathering, organized & performed collectively by several senior, junior and infant members of the Community culminating in the formation of the new Working Committee, under the pioneer leadership of Shri Shantharama Acharya designated as the President, Shri Vaadiraja Acharya as the first Vice-President, Shri B.M. Dinesh as the Secretary, Shri Sadaashiva Acharya as the Treasurer and several other Committee Members. This was a great opportunity for all the members of the community to keep aside their personal differences, if any, and to help them forget their individual shortcomings by coming together as a group to celebrate the spirit of one-ness as one large-family…under a single umbrella.
The Fifth Shri Guru Vishwakarma Pooja was held on 19th October, 2007 again involving a lot of cultural and entertainment programmes performed with lot of gusto and verve by the ever-graceful members of the community. As an added attraction, in that year’s programme, we had the privilege to perform the Pooja in the august presence of Vidwan Shri Umesh Acharya, well-known Astrologer and an expert Vaastu Consultant, who was also honoured by the Committee members in the traditional way by offering Flower Bouquet, Shawl, Fruit Bowl and a Citation.
In continuing with the tradition of the annual event, the 6th Pooja was held on 31st October, 2008 at the Karama Centre Community Hall, Karama, Dubai - once again as a day-long activity in the august presence of Shri Ashok Purohit, Jyothishi, Vaastu & Precious stone/Gems Consultant. The Pooja programme was followed by the cultural activities by the community members which was very well received by the appreciative audience. The Purohit was accompanied by a prodigiously talented son of Purohit Shri Umesh Acharya, Master Roopesh Acharya - an award winning Purohit in his own right.
This introduction and the recollection of the beautiful Pooja programmes of the first 5-odd years would be incomplete without mentioning the invaluable contribution by the reverend Shri Vaadiraja Acharya, Purohit, Astrologer and a Vaastu Consultant in his own right… In fact, it would not be out of place to say that it was due to his untiring efforts of the initial about 3~4 years, before the Pooja activities were started in 2003 which culminated into an annual event and coming together of the Vishwakarmans across this tiny gulf region.
Shri Vaadiraja Purohit took great pains in explaining the formidable virtues of offering prayers and performing daily Pooja to Shri Guru Vishwakarma and the beneficent and benevolent nature of the Omnipresent & Omnipotent Lord. In this respect, the Committee is ever grateful to Purohit Shri Vaadiraja Acharya.
Apart from these religious, social and cultural activities of the past few years, despite not being economically very strong, our Committee did it’s own little-bit of the ‘Alila Seve’ for the economically backward and deserving cases by offering token financial aids as enumerated below:
- Rs. 10,000/- donation to the poor children’s school
- To encourage the cultural activities of the artistes, a donation of AED 1,000/- was given to the ‘Vidyaabhushanara Sangeetha Karyakrama’ (broadly translated as the Musical Programme by the Vidyabhushans)
- A small contribution of Rs. 10,000/- for the treatment of the cancer-stricken child of the economically weak Mr. Bhoja Achaarya as recommended by the regional Association of our Community.
- Rs. 10,000/- for the reconstruction of the Bangra Manjeshwara Shri Kalika Parameshwari Devala
- Rs. 25,000/- donated to Shri Baburaya Acharya of Jantra Belman, who did not have the financial means for the heart treatment of his critically ill son.
- As a part of our broader perspective of reaching out to various needy people, in this cultural melting pot of Dubai, sometimes, we are approached by regional associations for financial aid. In this regard, our Committee donated a token Rs. 25,000/- to Shrimathi Sheetal P. Nayak hailing from Karwar, who lost her husband in tragic circumstances.
In order to ensure the legitimacy of the claims and to ensure that the money reaches the most deserving cases only, to avoid any bias or misuse, the contributions have been made as recommended for and vouched by the local / regional Associations.
The purpose of this site is to reach out to as many people from our community as possible, as due to the transient nature of the populace, it is a constant challenge to keep in touch in the traditional way of snail mail, telephone or fax, as quite often these have undergone change several times in the interim for most of the members. So, in an endeavor to keep in constant touch and update on the forth-coming events, with the vast number of members of our community, an effort is made to reach out to them the easiest and the fastest way of the modern invention of the internet and the email system. It will help us to reach out to as many members as possible and we plan to provide for online registration to be a part of the collective performance of the activities of our community. Any suggestions and contributions are most welcome.
We have a long way to go and a lot to achieve; we are confident of achieving even bigger success and grow as an economically strong community to serve the common causes of the regional Vishwakarmans and to accomplish this huge task the active participation of a large contingent of enthusiastic members is a pre-requisite. We have no doubt that you all will cooperate and contribute whole-heartedly with your ‘Tanu-Mana-Dhana’ for the success and development of our creative community to seek the Blessings of our beloved Guru, Maha Guru and Jagadguru – Shri Shri Vishwakarma…
